What We Do 2017-04-06T20:50:09+00:00

Puerto Vallarta Navy League A.C.

Our major initiatives:

WE WELCOME UPWARDS OF 20 VISITING NAVAL VESSELS PER YEAR. We welcome the officers and sailors of these ships to our friendly port, making sure they have information and access to activities, restaurants and other venues frequented by tourists. We host receptions for the crews of arriving ships and our members are encouraged to personally host small groups to home dinners, golf and tennis, fishing, and other activities that would make these fine young men and women feel “more at home.” A number of these people and their families will likely return to PV someday as tourists.   Since 1994, we’ve hosted well over 150 ships, which have collectively contributed many millions of dollars and pesos to the local economy.

WE SET UP COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECTS FOR THE VISITING MARINERS.

Each visiting ship is encouraged to give something back to their host City. This is normally in the form of a service project to paint a school or orphanage, do minor repairs such as plumbing and electrical work, landscaping, etc.  Following a half day of service work, the Puerto Vallarta Navy League AC treats the volunteer sailors to lunch at a local restaurant. It’s a wonderful experience and remembrance for all involved – the highlight of the port visit for many of the sailors.

WE ENCOURAGE VISITING SHIPS TO BRING DONATED MEDICAL AND EDUCATIONAL ITEMS FROM FOREIGN DONORS.

Through our Club de Clubs initiative, we arrange clearance through Customs and other required agencies in advance, so the goods can be delivered to receiving charities in the Puerto Vallarta area while the ship is in port.

WE ENCOURAGE CLOSE COLLABORATION WITH THE LOCAL MEXICAN ARMADA.

We seek opportunities for the Mexican Navy to interface with visiting mariners from other countries. These may include joint community service projects, sporting and social events, and other activities that promote cooperation and goodwill.

WE ORGANIZE THE ANNUAL TOYS FOR TOTS FUNDRAISER.

This is a  major activity, with the support of many local sponsors, including the Marriott Casa Magna Hotel, Vista Vallarta Golf Club, Patron Tequila, Honda and others. In the past 15 years we’ve distributed more than 120,000 toys and constructed more than a dozen playgrounds in low income neighborhoods in the Puerto Vallarta area.
